hi, engines are desigined to run on 99+ ron fuel, thats why cars never meets the stats given by manufacturers, redx is great for flushing injectors and a quick flush through of fuel lines ect. one of the better fuel aditives ive found is "power boost" sold at halford. but put redx through first. an engine tune will make more difference than putting something in the fuel. and just spend some money on your engine.

Assumption: you are talking about air:fuel air fuel needs to be kept at what is called "stochimetric" ration for a complete combustion, if you add too little fuel (20:1) then much of the air is not burned. This causes several problems: 1) high heat 2) low power 3) more CO(carbon Monoxide) Keeping the mixture stoich produces the most power for the amount of fuel. Raising the compression ratio does improve fuel economy. The reason for this is the "cyclic efficiency" of the diesel cycle with respect to the compression ratio. Interestingly, the otto cycle (spark engines) has a better cyclic efficientcy with respect to compression ratio but petrol detonates around 10:1.

When you say "add to petrol" do you mean mix in with the petrol itself, or just any other factor in the car driving experience? I always find that my own adrenalin makes my car go a hell of a lot faster!

depending on which country you live in you can use a higher grade fuel if your car runs on petrol then you can use premium but if you are already using this then there are usually octane boosters you can buy that you mix with the fule to get slightly more power and economy out of however if you are looking for more power then its usually easier to simply get some bolt on performance parts like a turbo

Try Redex additive. Just pour the bottle into your petrol tank when you fill up with petrol and that's it!!
Halfords sell Redex. Click on the link below and go to the section called car maintenance.

use an octane booster.
or buy Shell V Power (99 RON), most super unleaded (97-98 RON)
My car runs smoothest on Texaco Super-Unleaded or Tesco Super-Unleaded (Car=Calibra 2.5, motorway MPG 33-39)
Octane Booster sometimes works out more expensive than Super-unleaded
