I am South African, white and trying to get on with life like everyone else and I am just tired of being criticised/labelled/stereotyped by people who actually don't personally know anything about my country, me or life outside the UK! Why must I take responsibility for history for pete's sake? Any other foreigners feel the same?

Good for you.

You are not 'responsible' for what your forefathers did nor what their cats n dogs did either.

People are too quick to cast others in stereo-roles without thinking about what they are saying. It's a case of engaging their tongues before they engage their brains, and fuel up on ignorance.

Sash.

These people are in every walk of life in every country hun!
You just gota deal with it - people push their opinions on other people for reasons only known to them.
If they say back and actually saw how the look to others, I think they'd realise how obnoxious and stupid they appear - but unfortunately it just doesnt work that way

U must have heard of the Golden proverb, "Empty vessels make more noise". This means that people with little, half or no knowledge act to the outside world that they know everything. I hope this answer of mine has answered ur question.

They know, they cant deliver other than talks and that perhaps is the only option they have to make their living. This is quite common everywhere, you just ignore them.

Further best way of troubling anybody with big mouth is invite them for talk and you remain silent . They talk, talk.....talk and finally get tired and then they walk (out).

I am also a South African, and it creeps me out that in the opinion of the world, racism is a sin restricted to Europeans/Whites

People with the biggest mouths usually have the smallest...intellect. So they try to compensate for it by making the most noise and talking about things they know nothing of.

Tell them you were no where around when all the past history took place and they can't blame this on you. Foreigners need to worry about what goes on in their own country.

there's always somebody out there that think they know it all, but in reality they know nothing. i guess you can say they are as dumb as a box of rocks people are always trying to impress others of what trhey know and what they can do.some like to spit out words just to see where they splatter and hoping someone in the crowd will fall for their ignorance.let it go as long as you know the truth about yourself and whats going on,thats all that counts.you can feel at ease with yourself .who cares what the dunbfounded thing.good luck to you and take care. sincerely, pete

I guess it's to hide their ignorance - all bluster. So why let them get to you? There's an interesting verse from Matthew's Gospel, "...what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man".
