Do I need to get the system 'bled' before I use it again? We only have a small bungalow with 7 radiators.

Oil fired boilers/cookers are normally grevity fed so no, the system should be ok and refill the pipes once the tank is full again. The biggest problem you may have is stirring up sludge in the tank, they may block your injectors so you'll have to wait a few weeks once the boiler is working again and then maybe have a winter service.

By the way, oil is at its lowest price all year at the moment so I'd get in there and top the tank up.

YES you do, a small bubble of air will prevent the boiler from firing up.
When you get the service engineer out to bleed out the air, ask how much a "TIGER LOOP" would cost to have installed.Probably £70 but well worth it , as the problem will never happen again, the loop disperses any air in the system, so you can run out of oil every time if you so please.

I wouldn't think so. Radiators are filled with water, not oil, so running out of oil would simply mean that your heating system wouldn't generate heat required to warm the water in your radiators.

Sometimes it may fire right up....sometimes it won't. If the burner runs for a short time and shuts down then it will need to be bled. The size of the house makes no diff. Good luck

Shouldn't think so , just fill up and go. If you think there is a real safety problem, ask an oil heating engineer.
