Interesting opinions... however that one guy said that marriage is sacred between two couples? so Polygamy is ok? is that what he is saying? Im no quite sure.
I agree with the statement that gay people are like straight people, some believe in the institution of marriage, others dont. However, I believe we should have the right to choose one way or the other. Not be told that straight people can and gays cant. What is marriage really? Its a piece of paper that represents your legal bond together? If what you have is love, then I guess you dont really need the paper. My partner and I have been together almost 4 years, we are considered common law spouses and pretty much have all the benefits of a legally married couple.

I dont know if I want to get married. My g/f and I are in a very loving relationship right now, but I do not feel that getting married is either an advantage or disadvantage. We are both open to the people that we know, and if anyone has a problem with it, too bad. I have known some gay marriages (or partnerships) to last for many years, and some that haven't lasted long. I have also known alot of heteros whos marriages varied in length.

Well my partner and I have been together for 20 years and we never felt the need to get married..because we felt that we were together for all the right reasons..When I got seriously ill 2 years ago..all of our legal paperwork was taken care of..so that we have power of attorney, etc over each other..Our feeling was sort of 'look at what a mess the straight community has made of marriage--why would we want to be part of that'?. However, we are both in middle age now and marriage would certainly prevent us from being parcelled up and shipped to separate rest homes etc (or at least give us more power in that regard)...so we may / probably will get married in the near future...just a quiet wedding..no friends or anything...just for the legal ramifications...we certainly don't need God to approve anything we do..we've discussed this and that's where I think we're headed. BTW we're canadian so gay marriage is legal here.

As in a straight marriage, it depends on the couple. Some gays want to be married and some don't.
In my case, we've been together for sixteen years. Two years ago we got married in Montreal. The marriage brought us no legal benefits -- it was something that was right for us.

I would like to marry my girlfriend, and I hope that it will last for the rest of our lives. I love her a lot and I want to grow old with her.
But I don't know what you mean by "open your identity to the people all around you". I'm already out to everyone I know, so I'm not sure what that would mean.

well, in the United States, except for Massachusetts, it's not legal for us to get married, but if it were, I would! and I know gay/lesbian couples that have been together as long as, if not longer than a lot of straight couples I know.
As far as my identity being open....I'm out to everyone, and they are very accepting of me and my partner.

I've been with my partner for 31 years. What do you consider "a long time?"
Except for MA, it is illegal for gay couples to marry in the U.S. We do have a CT civil union. So we haven't been married, we've been civil unionated.

Yes I would marry my partner...FYI, our "identity" would already be open to the people around us. Our marraiges last just as long as you straight people's marraiges. Sometimes even longer.
