Girls with good morals, and girls who don't believe that you have to weigh 100 pounds to be beautiful.

I agree with you.
Queen Rania of Jordan is a great role model for young girls and women in general. She is a devoted mother and wife, a successful business woman, humanitarian, charity worker, and a QUEEN! Is that the ultimate dream or what? Despite all that she is really down to earth. She's also very intellectual & eloquent. Agree with Metropolis! In my case i never sought a role model until i went to university to do my diploma, later on degree in nursing! We had periods at uni, other periods on placement. One of my preceptors was the best nurse anyone could hope for and i made the conscious decision that she was exactly what i aspired to be, hence ... My role model. On another placement, i had a preceptor who turned out to be vile! Anything about him made me feel that i was going to be the opposite! So found myself (Without looking for it) 2 role models! One i wanted to emulate, one as in ... What i refused to be like!
These days i'd say role models for girls could/should be women who made it against the odds, fought for the right to achieve, not only their career but home life as well! Women who can self-assume, be financially independent (You never know what can happen) But also good women, caring, compassionate and good mothers!

I strongly agree with you that there are very few positive role models out there for girls today. There are plenty of awful ones, though (Paris Hilton, etc.) Maybe look within your own community to find some local ones (like at your church/faith community,good caring teachers at your local school, etc.)

I dont think role-models need to be from the same sex-pool.
My role-model is Sanjay Dutt-- He wont give up. He will fight to the end.
