Abnormality is when the persons symptoms do not go along with the standard accepted social behavior and expectations.
If you lived in a cannabalistic tribe and you refused to eat some one's dead body that would be ABNORMAL.

I think psychology is quite a demanding subject to study. When I was at university I often went in to the psychology faculty as I found the subject really interesting. It certainly wasn't thought an easy subject by students- those studying it or those on other courses. I think it's a very useful subject- criminal psychology being very interesting. Wish I'd studied it now. The department had a very good academic reputation both in the uni and on it's contribution through research.

We all have our own peculiarities but we share so many things in common. Those things that we don't share are often outside the real of "normal." Extra fingers or toes... or strange, bizarre behavior. What you study in "Abnormal" behavior is what often makes people be diagnosed as "unwell" and require professional help to prevent them from hurting themselves or others, or helping those that cannot exist independently because of some mental, emotional or psychological deficiency and/or impairment. Interesting courses are offered by colleges by very qualified and experienced instructors and professors in the field.

abnormality away from the norm, ie unacceptable behaviour, a physical abnormality is what it says, again away from the accepted
norm, in pyscology we have many abnormalities as in the behaviour , this could be taken as abnormal the fact of me answering a question from a complete stranger to me, not the normal behaviour of society. regards LF

That is indeed a very good question and quite a controversial one at that... For what is "NORMAL"? who defines normality and why should their interpretation be acceptable?? What may seem normal to one person may seem unacceptable to the next.. so, I believe keeping an open mind is essential.. So therefore my conclusion stands as follows, "ABNORMALITY" is what stands as "unacceptable" to the majority.. i.e. Society..
