Research the company that you're interviewing at. You can usually find out something about them on the web. Interviewers will often ask if you have any questions so I use this research to make a list of questions. It shows commitment and interest in the company.

Dress appropriately - no matter how dressed down the company is, jeans and sneakers are never going to be appropriate interview attire.

Arrive early. Lateness will pretty much ruin any chance of getting the job.

Take copies of any information you sent to the company - CV, covering letter etc, and make sure that you have these in front of you. It makes answering questions on them much simpler.

Take a pen and paper with you so you can take notes - it shows you're paying attention, and will stop you from repeating yourself.

Firm handshakes and eye contact are important, no matter how nervous you are. Try to avoid any nervous habits like foot tapping or playing with your hair.

Good luck!

If I were to interview you, I would be thinking about how you would fit into the business or organization: what you have to offer. Your enthusiasm is a great plus but remember many people are enthusiastic so ask yourself what special qualities do I have which would make me valuable to them.

Of course a calm smile and a few accurate questions will get them to let you know what they are looking for. Then honestly tell them why you are the best.

More and more writing, communicating and thinking skills are useful for any company. You could mention that you answer questions with Yahoo since and even mention some since they will see that you are an intelligent useful person who knows how to communicate.

Obviously your resume will also make a big difference so think about what points on your resume you should emphasize.

Dress smart - even if it is for a dress down company - it shows that you have made an effort and care. Several of my friends and myself have turned up in suits to interviews where the panal and the other interviewees dressed really casual but we got the job because we looked like we really cared, were efficient and professional.

Body language - when i am nervous i start playing with my hair - everyone has their own tick they do when their nervous. A good technicque is to sit with feet flat on floor or cross legged and then interlink your fingers and place your hands in your lap. This makes you look calm and composed and stops you making nervous gestures. Obviously use your hands to articulate anwers if necessary.

Make eye contact with the interviewer/s when answering and smile as well - it helps you feel less nervous and looks more confident.

Good luck.

I used to work as a careers advisor trying to get people into office jobs and these were some of the reasons that employers gave me as to why certain people did not get a job:

1) Eating KFC during the interview (several, one even spat his bones on the floor and the employer gave me loads of abuse on the phone about wasting their time)
2) Clearing their throat and spitting on he floor
3) Constant swearing
4) Answer their mobile phone continuously during the interview
5) CV not being totally honest
6) Having a lackadasical manner
7) Dressing inappropriately
8) Responding aggressively when asked probing questions
9) Wearing inappropriate clothes
10) Refusing to shake hands
11) Lack of experience
12) Dishonesty and general demeanor
13) Staring out of the window and phasing out during the interview
14) Slouching, staring at the floor and yawning
15) Chewing gum
16) Personal odour

So make sure that you dress appropriately, show enthusiasm, concentrate on your good points, explain why you want the job and what qualities you can bring to the role with reference to your past experience and CV, smile and have good eye contact and you will have a good chance og getting the job.

Don't be nervous, but if you are.. don't be nervous about being nervous! hehe Everyone is nervous during interviews. It's a fact of life.
If you don't have the answer to the question ask if you can have a minute to think on it. Don't say um or like or well a lot, drives people nuts on a normal basis!
Try to stay focused and calm, dress professionally, and shake their hand firmly. Not tightly, but firmly.
You'll do fine. Good luck!

Relax I know that is easier said than done. I watch people as they come through the door if they are dressed nice and have a good odor [ including breath] Eye contact is important. Don't chew gum! Don't flirt! My husband and I have a deal I interview men for him and he interviews women for me with the other watching on a cctv ! Make sure your references know you are using them. That will make sure you get a chance for the job.

Be yourself and be honest about everything (except the little bits they can't prove). Don't put yourself down too much but at the same time be aware of your weaknesses, but more importantly get across to the interviewer the range of skills you have and how you would apply them in the job you are going for. Finally, last interview i did, i sensed they liked me more because i was relatively calm and relaxed. DON'T slump in your chair, sit straight. Speak slowly and clearly. Ask questions too, they'll see you're interested. Good luck with it!

A Firm handshake! Look relaxed and confident even if you're nervous. Look interviewer in the eye. Be prepared for the type of questions you will be asked and think how you will answer ahead of time.
