The largest cut diamond in the world is now the Golden Jubilee weighing in at 545.67 carats. It was cut from a piece of brown rough weighing 755 carats by Gabi Tolkowsky. It was used as a test piece to try out new tools and equipment designed for cutting the Centenary which is a fantastic D colour stone as the loss of the brown stone would be of little importance if things went wrong. The Jubilee was presented to King Rama IX of Thailand to commemorate his 50th. year on the throne.
The Golden Jubilee outweighs the previous holder of the title, The Star of Africa by 15.37 carats. The rough stone from which the Star of Africa was cut (the Cullinan) still holds the record for being the largest diamond ever found at a staggering 3,106.75 carats.
