The answer to this depends on what (if anything) you already have. If you don't have broadband yet, then many service providers will provide you with everything you need when you sign up for their service, although some charge more for supplying the wireless equipment.
If you already have broadband, then your best option is to buy a combined ADSL modem/router with wireless capability built in. There are a number of decent manufacturers such as Belkin, Buffalo, Netgear, Linksys. Everyone has their own opinon which is best - in reality there is little difference between them.
Don't forget to set up the security properly on your wirless network!

I suggest a Linksys wireless router. They're foolproof to set up and pretty cheap to buy. They're available just about anywhere that sells computer stuff, even Walmart.
If your laptop has a wireless card built in, that's all you need. If not, Linksys also sells wireless USB antenaes that match up to the router.
Super easy, super fast and super cheap. Can't beat it!

use belkin equipment like a router and wireless receiver. if u already have broadband this should take about 2 mins to set up. its very easy.
If you dont have broadband, most providers now offer a wireless product so thats very easy too. try blueyonder.

I own and run a wireless network installation company. For our home customers we always recommend the Netgear DG834G (http://www.netgear.co.uk/home_wireless_adslrouters_108mbps.php) as the ADSL modem/router and for the PC's (unless they already have wireless cards installed) we recommend the Netgear WG111 (http://www.netgear.co.uk/home_wireless_networkcards_108mbps.php)
These products have performed very well for us and our clients have not reported any issues.

Wireless is very simple to install - if I can do it, anyone can. But don't use a Netgear router. That's what I started with and it causes me nothing but trouble. I'm constantly having to reset it, and the signal is very weak.

You can use the manual to configure it but our company has a lot of customers that are completely confused in how to set them up. If you know a good geek, buy him/her a beer for a favour. Make sure its gets 128bit encrypted as well! Otherwise your network will be open for attack.

Get Linksys better, Belkin has so much trouble.
Linksys CD's will guide you on installation.
Good luck

Lots of providers also sell routers.
If you live in Romford you could get NTL cable.
