Hey there! It depends on many things: First of all your age, then it depends on any previous medical insurance cover you have had and then of course it depends on your health status.
When I returned to live in SA and signed up for Discovery health care (it is the best one!) I had to wait for 1 year before I could make any claims; this was because I am 37 and asthmatic and hadn't had any cover in SA since 1999. They did however agree to cover my asthma medication prescriptions straight away. My children on the other hand were covered immediately.
Hope this helps... Discovery's website is www.discovery.co.za, there's more info on there and it really is the best medical cover provider in SA.

Most medical Aids - cover you from day one , IF you have been on a medical scheme during the last three months.
If not there is a three mth waiting period.
Some premium schemes cover you from day one.

I would! doctors bills and medication is expensive! You would have to wait about three months for you to be able to use it! Discovery health is a good system with a good rewards program as well!
