They are more then willing to mate at any time, providing that you have good water conditions, diet and temperature and proper breeding set ups (like places to spawn or hide for live bearers). Increasing the frquency of water changes, or one large (50%) water change with water at the same temp as the tank usually helps induce the breeding mood.

tropical fish can mate all year round mostly the live bearers ,egg layers are more aggressive when they lay their eggs usually under a rock ,krebensis) on the glass angel fish..
platies and sword tails, guppies have live young so need plenty of plants for them to hide in when born

it all depends on which tropical fish u keep. guppies will breed all year round cos there randy fish. but i do believe if you raise your temperture up in your tank slightly than most tropical fish will breed. just be careful because sum fish are egg layers and if u have bottom feeders they will eat the eggs.

My son raised convicts for about three years, and as long as their water temp & salinity was maintained @ proper levels, those fish procreated like crazy!
