Great answers, but none touch the greatest movie of all time. The Princess Bride. It is a classic love story, interspersed with sword fighting and has 3 of the greatest men in history in it: Carey Elwes, Andre the Giand, and Mandy Patinkin. Great story, awesome moral, and funny as can be.

The Shawshank Redemption - i was going through a tough time and i really didn't want to be bothered with anything. I read about this film on the internet being great so when i was at the shops i picked it up really cheap.
I got home, sat there with a bottle of wine and watched the film, it changed my life. I've never cried so much and been moved so much by a film to want things to get better, it was a big turning point. If i ever get to a point where i start to feel a bit down again i put that film on and it reminds me how better things are than what i think.

Mine changes every month or so, but lately has been a tie between Serenity and Boondock Saints.
Serenity is the continuation of a short-lived series by Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) called Firefly. It's basically cowboys in space. It's funny and thought-provoking and has a gorgeous cast and amazing special effects. This was also the first Director's Commentary I listened to. Joss is... like, God or something! heh
Boondock Saints I love for nearly the same reasons. It makes you not only think ( "Is killing for good, GOOD?" ), but gets you to side with the ones doing the killing! Also, I'm in love with Sean Patrick Flannery, who's one of the stars of the film. The humor is spot on, the acting is fabulous, the fight scenes are perfect... I'm really hoping they make a sequel sometime soon!
I've seen both movies at least 20 times and plan on watching them many more.

Do I have to name just one??? I like "Almost Famous": the film really puts me back in the 1970s and carries good lessons on comming of age, friendship loyalities and not being quick to judge a book by the cover.
The American Pie trilogy: each one puts me up for a good laugh.
Batman Begins: The best film portrayal on how the Dark Knight came to be. I can actually look forward to seeing another Christian Bale portrayal of Batman, as he faces The Joker or other Bat-nemesis.

My ultimate #1 favorite movie is: LADDER 49!!
Its my favorite movie because it portrays what our firefighters do day after day in their jobs. They are out there serving and protecting the people of the community. That is not an easy task if you think about it...how many lives they are responsible for each and every day!!!! Alot of times, they go into dangerous situations to help those in need!!!!!!!! My brother is a captain/firefighter out here in California, and I am so proud of what he does!!! It takes courage, compassion, love, caring, understanding, patience and sacrifice to do what they do!!!!
That is why Ladder 49 is my favorite movie!!!! It shows how much firefighters care about the people they serve and protect

It depends on the situation.
10 Things I Hate About You for when I'm on my own with a pot of Ben And Jerrys.
The Lion King for when it's raining and the kids need something to do indoors.
Interview With The Vampire for Antonio Banderas.....!
From Dusk Til Dawn for when I've overdosed on the niceties of kids films and I need blood, gore, swearing, George Clooney and vampires. It covers all the bases!

Star Wars. All six of them. I just love those movies. I was crazy about them since i was a kid and now i love them even more. I never thought this would happen but i actually feel sorry for poor Darth Vader, seeing how he became what he is. I even collect replicas and anything else i can find for Star Wars.

The Green Mile, starring Tom Hanks.
It was a movie that showed hope and yet the ugly side of human beings. I know I cried in the scene where this guy was being electricuted w/o any water on him... it broke my heart.
ALL Time favorite movie.
