That is a typical question... what will you give back to society?

I do not feel that it is something that wealthy people need to do. If a person has worked hard their entire life and has made it to the top, why should they be responsible for giving back to society?

Today's society does not contribute in many ways to a persons success, that is mostly his/her own doing. In fact, I find that in today's world, it seems as if it is harder to get ahead than it ever has been.

For example, if you try and get financial aid through the state because you are out of work, they make you sit in a class 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, learning how to go get a job, instead of actually doing it. If you have a child, and you are single, they still require you to work, even if it is for minimum wage, if you want to get food stamps. In the meantime you are paying someone 2 - 3 dollars an hour to watch your child, so after taxes, you're bringing in about 1.50 an hour. YAY! No, I do not think society is conducive at all to achievement.

On the other hand, if I had billions, such as Mr. Gates, I would probably do something like his foundation, only because I do not like to see others suffer, for any reason, but especially because of poverty.

it depends on the definition of successful, i think i have achieved my definition, i have a loyal spouse and a mostly happy life, and if i could give that back to the world i would, giving it to society is another thing as we don't define it the same.

You can never be successful if you don't give as you receive it.

The more you give- The more you receive.

Love is Charity and Charity is love.

Luke 10:27
'You shall love "your neighbor as yourself.'"

Matthew 22:39 Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Lev. 19:18 … but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:

Jesus said, Love Each Other, as I Have Loved You. John 15:12 .

1st Corinthians
Chapter 13:13
But now faith, hope, and love remain--these three. The greatest of these is love. Love is charity.

Charity
In 1 Peter 4:8 it states that "charity shall cover the multitude of sin. ... The very act of charity prevents sin in both us and in others. ...

Jesus gave us two new commandments to merge all together
Luke 10:27
'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'"

When a student asked Buddha, "What is the greatest sin?"...

Buddha answered:

"Lack of generosity in the wealthy."
