Cut off both ends and throw these bits away, cut into small sections and then boil gently for about 2 minutes.
Put them in cold water straight away, maybe replacing it once or twice. Once cold put them in a tray in the freezer - moving them about often.
This latter aspect "Freeze flows" them like you get in the super market. It means that you can extract a handfull when you need to rather than a frozen clump.
You don't have to cut them up if you don't want to - they just take up less room that way.

Prepare them for cooking, then stick them into slightly salted boiling water for 1 - 2 minutes,
immerse them immediately in iced water, leave for at least 3 minutes.
Drain and freeze immediately.
The cold water makes them keep their lovely dark green colour.

All you do is cut them at both ends, run them under a cold tap and then decide what you want to do with them..
Either cook them let them cool down then freeze them or cut them into pieces and put them into freezer bags for another time. It's much easier to cut them when they aren't frozen.

I think you just cast them into boiling water for a few moments. I have never done it, I just wash them, chop them up, then freeze them.
