If you're just OK, then there is no work for you. If you are spectacular and have experience then you will always be in demand and will be compensated accordingly. The trick is to be adept with lots of different technology - Ajax, Perl, PHP, databases like Sybase or MySQL. all the modern HTML stuff. Either that or be a kick-*** graphic designer with knowledge of how to design user interfaces. It's very rare to find both in the same person. You'll need to start getting a lot of experience to command the big $$$ and job security though.

define "demand". If you mean like Dog Catchers are in demand then sure i guess, good luck finding an open position worth anything.

Not like it used to be. Lots of packages out there which can build a website in minutes. Unless the client wants something complex/custom, they can do it themselves. I wouldn't bank on this as a primary career but more of a sideline.
