Yes, religious peoples have an answer for everything it is called an act of GOD. God is the thing you believe in when you lack the resources to study the universe. Like the soviets said Religion is the Opiate of the masses.
Older peoples before religion would just be faced with pure threat but religion gives people the freedom to imagine their answers. GOD is sort of the science of placing the blame where it does not belong.
Science is an evolutionary step in human understanding and if it can be married with goodness it should one day replace religion most altogether to answer questions about almost anything.

No, they wouldn't....which is why they metaphorically describe them as "chariots of fire" and "gleaming wheels in the sky".
If we were to build a time travel device and zap for a few seconds, a small TV set to Biblical days, Eziekel's description of the TV set would be so graphic, we'd be debating just exactly what he saw.
In the mid 70's a NASA engineer took Eziekel's description of the "wheel" in the sky he described and drew out an impressive areial space craft. Last year, some MIT students took the same descriptions and drawings of the craft, running them through a CAD 3-D program....and found the craft has "high function probablility"!!!

They would most likely call it "God". There are instances of secluded islanders paying homage and building statues of the god in the sky, after seeing airplanes during WW2. The Egyptians had celestial gods as did the Incan and Aztec people. Notice how most all gods come from the sky.
