Because men have alot of pride. They are in denial of their faults.

Men typically are told that as they age they get better looking...and women on the other hand are made to feel that they need to hold on to youth to stay attractive.
..kind of a double standard but life isn't always fair.

Women need too see that men have confidence in themselfs for men to look attractive to them, and women are naturally overly emotional and unstable.

I think men want to show that they are confident of themselves, so they "puff" themselves up even though they aren't attractive, hoping that their confidence would win a woman over.
