I think it's worth it. I have learned the hard way and have very specific terms on ebay. I won't sell to people with feedback under a certain number without them emailing me first b/c it can be a real pain in the rear. Don't worry about your feedback b/c if you are a good and honest seller / buyer - people will know that. I know we always research the person we are buying (or trying to buy) from on ebay. We'll check their feedback both received and left for others. If they have a negative, we usually check the person who left the negative and 9 times out of 10 the seller was honest and the buyer felt they got screwed and left it just b/c they are a nasty person. I have had a few listings pulled b/c it violated terms, and then just relist it - they usually don't violate terms, but some dumb **** who had theirs pulled will go and look at others who are selling what they had pulled and report them - some people are idiots and refuse to take responsiblity for their actions. As far as shipping goes - it's for shipping AND handling - i pack all my items in envelopes I buy from Target and if it's fragile, I buy the bubble wrap. I don't go to the post office, i just use the printing option from paypal and have the post office stop by my house to pick it up to save me the aggrevation of waiting in line. I had somebody email me once about how the shipping price charged was different than the price on the package and i had to explain it to them. I hate the people who are selling an item that is maybe 3.85 to ship but b/c they list it for 99 cents to save money on ebay fees, they'll charge you 42.75 in shipping - lol - now, what's absurd, not somebody charging 5.00 for shipping. :)
But anyway - to answer your question, i feel that the benefits of extra cash in my pocket outweigh the few jaded people out there. Sorry this got long-winded! :)

The problem with eBay is that [for the most part] they are the only act in town. Sure you would THINK that selling on Amazon or Yahoo would be equivalent, but they just dont have the traffic that eBay has. And yes, they have raised the prices considerably in the past few years, but hey, what are your real options...selling your stuff on the street corner??? They do charge alot to sell smaller items, but they are working for you 24 hrs a day and they handle all the promotion and traffic for you. All you have to do is take 2 minutes to list your item, answer inquiries and then collect your money. They are giving EVERY single person who owns a computer a chance to be their own boss and work for themselves...and if that means that they take 10%-15% of every transaction, then so be it.
And anyone who says that upcharging on S&H is wrong, obviously never stood in a line for 30+ mins, 5 nites a week at the post office. It's called Shipping & HANDLING for a reason. My time is worth money. If it takes me 5 mins to package an item and then another 30 mins to ship it [plus gas to get to the post office] then you better believe that I'm going to tack on 2 or 3 bucks to the shipping price. After all it's BUSINESS, not CHARITY. The S&H prices are clearly stated in the auction...if you dont like it, then dont bid!!! Simple as that.
Long story short, YES it is worth the time and effort to sell on eBay...but that's not to say that I wouldnt mind if they had a little competition from someone else...
Sorry for the rant, but rookie eBayers really get my pressure going.

I agree with your story. There may be such problems. eBay should take some remedial action to protect manufacturer or seller interest too.
But what I feel here is that e-commerce is there in the world to exists. eBay remains there or some other bay emerge which protect the seller interest too to keep the quality product on the sell.
There is certainly a need of more players who are in this line like eBay. Competition will keep the eBay at bay. So cheers and find some better and caring network agent for your product. It is good, effective and futuristic.
Be cautious, protect your interests and enjoy!

I've never sold on eBay but have bought a lot of movies and books. If you have sold on eBay for 4 years, only you can determine whether the money you make is worth the hassle. But remember, in any job there are always problems and you need to figure out if it would be worth it to quit and find a local part-time job.

I began selling on ebay a couple of years ago - I set up my shop with them last year. Since I started the prices have gone up rather a lot. Especially when my items sell for £2 each!
Feedback is a pain in the neck - how is it my problem is someone has bouncing email and they never contact me to say the files never arrived!
I changed over to my own website in February and it is so much better and so much cheaper in terms of fees. Now if I could only reduce the chunk paypal takes!
Ebay is good for bringing my items to people's attention - I send a link to my site with all my emails, but their fees are much too much.

RE:
IS Ebay worth the problems?
I have sold on Ebay for about 4 years. here is my problem with them. Continually increasing seller fees, they basically protect the buyer and not the seller.who incidentally keeps them in buisness) they pull your listings because you make 2or 3 bucks extra on shipping and handling or some clown...

I agree about the buyers who are not as familiar with ebay as you might be. You have to be patient with people like that.
Refunds are the best policy.
Some of the sellers are ripe jagoffs, to be sure. I've called one to get his address so I could personally shove my fist in his face for being said jagoff, but he declined.
To "make 2 or 3 bucks extra" on shipping is greedy and unconscionable. Soon, they may have a category added, along side "lowest price", as "honest ship fees".
You are correct re: raising the prices. But everybody wants a raise, right? so everybody raises prices.
It's the customer service that really sucks on ebay.

I was thinking about Ebay but for the amount they charge here and there, I decided to go elsewhere to sell, they are getting outrageous. And the people you have to deal with is a headache.... search elsewhere it would be worth it.
