Fall of the Hizz-ouse of Usher, Dawg!

If I ever met somebody that had read Poe and didn't like him I can't Imagine liking them as a person.

If you like Poe, also good are Maupassant and Gautier, who wrote in French, but there are a million translations in English, many for free on the internet.

Try Maupassant's, "Horla":

Or if you like vampires Gautier's, "The Beuatiful Dead" aka "Clarimonde", aka "The Beautiful Vampire", aka "The Dead in Love" which influenced Bram Stoker (in french):

you might have to go to a bookstore for that one in English.

Also excellent Argentinean writers (widely available in translation) all influenced by Poe:

Horacio Quiroga
Jorge Luis Borges
Julio Cortazar

I haven't seen his biography, but I definitely enjoy reading Poe's stories and poetry... They never fail to put me into a kind of trance of horrified fascination, all nervous anticipation and doom. CLASSIC! The only other author who makes me feel like that is H.P. Lovecraft, probably because of writing style.

I liked his poetry and stories. The tell tale heart and the raven are two of my favorites. I also read some his comdeies plays, and it gave me a sense as to what people in his day found funny. I also like the way that on 'the Simpsons" tv show, they actuaaly did a good job of doing the tell tale heart and the raven.

The Black Cat, Berenice, Morella, and the Masque of the Red Death are my favorite of his stories.

My favorite poems originating from his hand are The Raven, The Haunted Palace, The Conqueror Worm, and The City in the Sea.

Truly, he was and still remains the greatest American poet.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore...

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor

Yes, I find him to a fascinating man and a great author. They like him so much in his native Baltimore that they named their football team after his best known poem, "The Raven"

Dark, dreary, imagery which cannot be beat.

Crank up some Evanescence and crack open some Poe. There's a night well spent.
