That's something that only you can decide and other people's opinions don't matter becasue everyone's situation and preferences are different. As long as you have a certified midwife and you don't have a high-risk pregnancy, there's no reason you can't have a homebirth if that's what you want. If there are any complications, the midwife is trained in what measures to take (getting you to the hospital, etc). Women have given birth at home for hundreds of thousands of years. It's only been since modern hospitals were created that home births and other home remedies are considered "bad and evil" becasue everyone nowadays thinks that if it can't be fixed with modern drugs then you'll die.
I've always entertained the idea of having a homebirth for when the time comes and I've never once received slack from anyone for that.

Go for it! As long as you live relatively close to a hospital (within a 10 minute ambulance drive) I think it's not a great risk. Homebirths are amazing, and midwives are prepared to handle all kinds of complications.
"Spiritual Midwifery" is the best book for getting yourself psyched for a home birth. It's all about the experiences of the midwives birthing thousands of babies on a commune in Tennessee (they've been doing it for over thirty years). It's really far out, and some of the Hippie language is laughable (they describe births as psychadellic all the time!), but regardless this book has solidified my choice to have a home birth and I'm so excited for it now. I read it when I was 2 months pregnant and I think about the messages from it all the time. It helped me to feel confident in myself, my partner, and my midwife.

dont wanna scare u ut my friend just had a home birth. It started off well but became VERY dangerous towards the end and her baby nearly died. There was not enough equipment to deal with the problems that arose. Not only that but because she was at home, it took away some of that special time where everyone is looking after u, she was up and about and expected to make tea etc after a few hours! Im sure everybodys experiences are different but I wouldn't risk it!

I dont nessesarily think its a bad idea or a good idea. I personally do not want a home birth. I wouldnt feel safe. I would rather be where I could get help fast and now if anything went wrong.

You know, I had thought of it too. A girlfriend of mine had one and it was a great experience. However, I had changed my mind - and luckily too. In the hospital, after a day's labour, my son went into distress as his heart rate plummeted, and I had to be rushed to surgery to have a c-section. This was done within a half hour. My son had the cord wrapped around his neck twice. If this had happened at home, there would not have been time to get to a hospital. I will be forever grateful I changed my mind.

It's your choice, don't let anyone else put you down for your decision. Besides how were women giving birth for all those centuries before hospitals? Just make sure to have a professional with you and head to the ER if any complications arise.

As long as you do not have a high risk pregnancy, and you have a certified mid-wife, then I would not see a problem with it. Just make sure you think everything out before you make a decision. Put everything into perspective, and think of how far away you are from the hospital in case of an emergency.
Good Luck!
Let us know what you decide!

bad idea, just incase the baby isnt breathing or something when you give birth.. i could probably go on forever about the complications that could happen.. it is much safer for your baby to be in the hospital. You should really think this through alot more.. wouldnt you rather know that your baby will be safe no matter what happens?

i think of it relies upon maximum on the place you reside and what the regulations are. here in Texas, we've CPM's (qualified expert Midwives) who're not linked with a well being facility. they only do dwelling house Births. If that decision is obtainable to you, i might propose finding one outdoors of the well being facility. I do accept as true with you, dwelling house births are greater advantageous.

It's a definite BAD idea! Even if this is your second childbirth.
Anything could happen, baby in breech position, umbilical cord entangling baby causing lack of oxygen, your high blood pressure shooting up which can also harm your baby and you, and many others.
We are not talking about being pessimistic. Please go to hospital as they have all the necessary euipment and staff assistance, for the safety of both mother and child.
