Sun is not like Earth. Earth is a solid mass, while Sun is mainly gaseous. It is made of hydrogen and helium. It is very very big in size. Many many earths can fit in Sun. It is like a giant cloud of burning gases rotates on its own axis.
Just as earth rotates on its axis, Sun also rotates on its axis. But earth is all solid, so all the parts of earth move at the same time. Sun is a ball of gases, so different parts of sun rotate at different speeds. The centre of sun rotates at a different speed than the poles. Also there are storms inside sun. Some storms may go from one direction to another, and some may go from the other side. So, although sun does not take rest, but it also does not have a periodic harmonic rotation like that of earth.
