I yawn and am tired, yet, when I lay down to sleep, i can't shut my mind off. I've tried Tylenol PM, but it doesn't work. I don't want to take any OTC sleep pills or RX pills because I don't want to become dependant. I just want to keep from screwing up my sleep schedule. It happened once before where I basically went to bed at 5 am and woke up at 1 pm. I don't like it, but one night I can't sleep and it messes me up really easily and is hard to fix. Is there some remedy? Should I see a doc and try the new drug lunesta? Please help!

I have a hard time sleeping at night. Im in the same situation, but I moved from California to Texas and now I dont feel tired or fall asleep till 4-5am and then wake up around 1. I hate it and I try taking a hot bath at night before I fall asleep and that helps a little. Plus i started going running at night and that helps too. I also wake up early no matter what time I fall asleep. So if I fall asleep around 5, I still wake up around 9:30 so that way Im really tired at night. When that doesnt work, I still would like to try Lunesta. You might want to try some of those things before taking medicine, but if nothing works.....then you should give it a shot but be sure to talk to your doctor anyway and try all those things and then if they dont help, tell your doctor to prescribe lunesta.

I found something natural that has helped me emensely ... I would be sleeping if I was not cooking chicken outside for tomorrow ... fire was real slow for some reason.

Anyway, I take something that is all natural and I don't want to get into trouble for spaming - so ... here is a site that is really informative and the video's are really educational ... check out the resource below only if you want to, it may be worth your while. I heard people with diabeties, artheritis and/or etc. have even claimed some miraculous things ...

for me - to sleep after over 40 years of insomnia (documented in labratory testing of getting only 10% sleep out of 7 hours ... and the 10% was broken up greatly ... a minute here, 7 min. there, 2 min here, 10 min there after 1/2 hour tossing and turning).

Only after one day - I started sleeping 2 hours straight - run to the potty come back for 3 hours straight before I ran back the bathroom. Yeah, even losing weight which I needed to lose but was not trying.

It has nothing to do with embrio stem cells - it is something that makes your body release it's own stem cells from your bone marrow up to 30%, and with this going on from what I was shown and now know, it helps the body achieve the optimum health even Congress and the President of the United States has been talking and debating about.

Don't need to kill a fetus for better health, but; stem cells from an egg and the squiggly thing coming together - is easier to grow in a test tube, our very own stem cells from our bone marrow is very difficult to grow in a test tube, but; in our body - they can go wild and become any organ, brain cells, blood, bone and/or etc.

I don't know why it helped me to start sleeping again ... after 2 weeks now ... I am getting 8 - 12 hours a night ... almost straight. I have heard this from others who have had the problem also ... not proscribing, curing, healing, diagnosing and/or etc. here ... just saying what it did for my sleeping disorders and maybe it is just a complete cooincidence.

I actually got it to help me with something else (to reverse my old age ...). Never knew what my body needed ... after 40 some years of less than 2 hours sleep a night which was broken up into a hundred seperate periods ... now I am just freaked out and feeling so great I went for a 7 mile walk ... haven't walked in over 15 years longer than 3 or 4 hundred yards (to the mailbox and back ... once every 6 months - I sent the children - not no more).

Hope this helped ... you aren't alone - check out the site only if you want to.

try going to sleep at the same time each night to set your biological time clock this will help your body to release the right hormones at the right time. it may take few days.
as with the active mind, try increasing the gap between thoughts.
keep repeating this, your next thought maybe, hey its day light.
this is a great little exercise to do during the day several times for a few min. after a week or so, your should be able to sit down and relax without your mind going a thousand mph.
remember worrying about things doesnt chainge things only action does. so think about it in the morning so you can take action then.................best of luck from oz.

Been there, I'm transitioning into a graveyard shift myself right now.
1. Try more exercise
2. Instead of OTC's try Melatonin & Valarian Root
3. As soon as you get up, let your body, especially your eyes absorb sunlight ( your body creates Seratonin that way ).
4. Alcohol is a common cause of sleep deprivation, as is stress, so try to keep both at a minnimum.
5. Explore both natural remidies and theraputic remidies.

Try this basic meditation technique. Think of a simple thing, like the number "1". Picture it in your mind. Listen to yourself say it silently. Repeat it over and over. As soon as you feel other thoughts creep into your mind, concentrate on "1". Over and over and over. Brush those thoughts away, 1...1....1....1......

It take alot of practise on focusing but it works for some people to quiet the mind and get into sleep mode without the use of drugs that can become addictive.

ok there are many ways to help, Lavender smell helps they say that rubbing lavender lotian on a baby puts them to sleep well its works on adults too, also slow songs, heartbeat sounds they have a mashine that makes different sounds of nature(heart, wind, air, jungle) things like that or even your fav. slow song, hot tea with lemon in it, like someone else said a long hot till you almost cant stand it hot with bubbles, or simply ask your mom how she use to get you to sleep as a child and try some of those things, just cause they worked on you as a child doesnt mean they wont work now

My advice is to have light meal around 7.30pm. Befor sleep have a warm shower, drink a cup of milk, wear comfortable night wear. At the end when you put your head on the pillow try to relax every muscle in your body, sinking down in to your mattress. And If it is not useful see your doctor.

Benedryl works really well. It isn't habit forming and if taken for a few days, can get you back into a sleep pattern. Always go to bed at the same time every night.

I read one time in a Reader's Digest that calcium helps you sleep better at night. My mom would always offer Tums to the grandkids because it had calcium in it. Warm milk is okay, but gives you bad breath but warms you up. So maybe there is something to that, hope that helped.

it helps to take a really warm bath right before u want to go to bed then dont turn on any bright lights afterwards. drinking hot tea after that bath might help too.
