All of the martial arts were designed as defensive forms of self defense, disabling the opponent without really doing harm is what it's all about.

While I don't claim to be an expert by any stretch, from my experience ninjitsu (the art of the Ninja) is very deadly. The very word ninja is legendary and carries the same type of reverence as say, a Navy Seal, and for good reason. These guys were trained assassins, the best the emperor of Japan had. They mastered not only the moves, but camouflage, concealment, deception, and any kind of weapon you can think of.
There are still some that practice the black art of ninjitsu but it is increasingly difficult to find being taught in its original manner.
