My baby was 2 weeks overdue, and showed it. Now he is always in the 90th percentile for size. We went straight to the 3 months when he was born, and not long after he was into the 6 month. He is always 6 months ahead in his clothes. At 19 months now, he is easily fitting into 24 month clothes. He was 9 lbs, 5 ounzes when he was born. When you start washing your baby clothes, it innevitebly shrinks as well so you can give them a few washes and it should catch up to your babies size.

AS for the birthing of him, it was not any harder than my boy who was born 15 months earlier, who was a normal 7 lbs, 11 ounzes. That being said, I had an epidural for both of them, maybe that would be advisable. I always would advise an epidural, just because the technology is available, and makes such a huge difference! But, I understand it's a personal choice. The body has an amazing ability to go back to normal after birth. It takes a little healing, but it gets there. Not to worry.

I would definitely, bring some 3 month clothing to the hospitla. When they are this young, they grow so fast too. And sleepers are usually all they end up wearing because of how much they sleep! Best of luck to you in your coming month, and your labour and delivery hope it's a success!

Don't worry about the clothes. They will be big at first, but in the first few months he will grow so rapidly that you'll be happy to have bigger clothes instead of buying new ones monthly. All stores carry "newborn" or "premie" clothing sizes. Invest in a few items that are those sizes if you are concerned about the clothes fitting. My son was 7 lbs 10 oz, and he wore 0-3 mo clothes from day one. Some were just way too big, but others were fine. He spent more time in sleepers the first few weeks anyway, and they are very forgiving as far as size is concerned.

Also, don't put the clothes up to you and think that's the size of your baby, because it's not. Don't worry about how the baby will come out because you'll have yourself a mess. My son came out no problem with minimal tearing, so just relax and let it all happen.

My nephew and his wife had a baby that was under 6 lbs. when he was born, and everything they had ready for him was the infant 0-3 months stuff. They found him clothing to tide him over until he grew a little. I don't remember where they found it, but I know it wasn't a department store, so you might check places like Target, K-Mart or Shopko, which have good sized baby areas. What you are looking for is "preemie" sized clothing for early babies. Their little boy was not a preemie, he was just tiny, as his mommy is very petite, and little babies run in her family.

I also found this website:

http://www.preemiesrus.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/1_28

It specializes in clothing for preemies, or babies from 4-6 lbs. (at least that was the size on the few items I looked at). If you cannot find anything in local stores, you might give them a try. You can also just do a search with the search term "preemie sized baby clothing" and you will probably find other stuff.

And don't worry about when he will fit into the 0-3 stuff. He'll probably be able to wear it pretty soon. You may have to roll up cuffs, or deal with clothes that are a little baggy for a while, but people will understand.

If you are worried about the clothing you already have for him being too small for him, just move up a size to 3-6 mos., or even 6-9 if necessary.

Congratulations on the new son :)

Not all babies are born at 5 lbs 6 oz of 6 lbs 2 oz, I have friends who have had twins weighing 8 lbs each, and one with a 9 pounder. Those 0-3 are for the little ones, girl go get you some 6 to 9 month clothing and a back brace, you will need it. Oh, and don't think about the delivery, you will get anxious, it will go smoothly, watch. God Bless.

I don't think you'll have any trouble...those clothes are smaller than they seem. Have a few "newborn" items on hand for the first couple weeks, but baby will QUICKLY outgrow them. My son was 9 lbs and 7 oz, and he was too big for the newborn clothes and diapers at birth. He didn't fit in the hospital tshirts, so his godparents brought an outfit for him to wear at the hospital, and my parents brought an outfit for him to go home in. But my daughter was tiny and fit in newborn clothes for a few weeks before the 0-3 mos. were more handy.

The weight has nothing to do with it, all babies are different it's only a suggestion on surveys that they do to determine the size of clothing from what the size and weights are of babies being born. If he is a preemie then you will have to go to a store for that. I don't know of any because they are hard to find. My daughter barely fit into new born clothing because she was so long. It's just depends on the structure of the baby.

You will seldom find perfect fitting clothes for babies, especially newborn. 0 to 3 months will fit your baby just fine. I wouldn't go over board on buying too much of any certain size because by the time he is one month old he'll be wearing 3 to 6 months size! They tend to make baby clothes small. And they grow so fast !

If hes too big for premie ( usually only goes to 7 lbs and not really worth buying with how fast he will grow out of them ) then u just gotta tuff it out. I know the feeling. my daughter was born too long for 0-3 month clothes ( over 21 inches ) and 3-6 month clothes are like a potatoe sack on her. Good luck.

Sure he will fit those clothes. My boys were 9.1 and 9.6, 24 1/2 inches long. He was a toddler... anyhow, 3 months clothes fit him just fine. Now that hat that they give babies didnt fit, and cut into his head (indent), and had to by size 1 diapers instead of 0, but they will fit. In case your still nervous, get some jammies or onsies. They always work.

depends where you are. if you're in Britain then adams do their newborn clothing by weight and Mothercare do an low birth weight range, in fact i think a lot of Baby clothes suppliers do an early baby range, like Mama's and Papa's. just have a shop around. oh i also think the department stores like Marks and Spencers do as well. it shouldn't be too hard to get clothes that fit. Not that i had that problem, my kids were huge.
