Well first off, like you said it is a contreceptive. It will also regulate a womans period, it will reduce acne, it will make the pains/bloating/bleeding associated with her period lighter/milder. It is really a benificial thing.

I can only tell you the benefits I've experienced and they are not the same for every one.

clearer skin, predictable periods, option periods (menstrual supression can safetly be done with any combined monophasic contraceptive. It's not recommended on the patch but, the nuva ring and any monophasic pill works to supress menstration for long periods of time.), fewer cramps, less bleeding, shorter periods (3 days instead of my usual 9), fewer emotional problems from pms so fewer mood swings and obviously worry free sex.

there are also studies that suggest birth control pills prevent certain types of cancer in women.

negative side effects? When I was taking Ortho Tricyclen and the -lo version I'd get terrible headaches once a month but, now I take Marvelon or Desogen (in the USA) and no headaches. I experienced sore breasts and moodiness when starting Marvelon (but it went away after the first 2 weeks) and my periods were really heavy for the 2nd and 3rd month on Desogen but, have since become much much much more tolerable. They say it takes about 3 months to adjust. Side effects often go away after that time but, sometimes they don't (like my headaches) and you need to switch brands.

Now, I am not a doctor and this is just hear say ... I heard of a little girl that found her mommas birth control stash a few months in a row - and the poor child thought they were like M&M's (not trying to spam here ... just what the little girl thought) ...

Anyway, she ate the whole months worth all at one time ... did this several times before her momma found out. Well, the little girl did not get pregnant, that was for sure and occured 24 years ago - things like that were not really thought of so much by normal people; however, there was one benefit that came out of it all ... eating the pills that way that is ...

See, the little girl was not that comely ... in fact, one had to tie a pork chop around her neck to get the neighbors dog to play with her. Hope for her to get married off was pretty slim and nobody would hire her cause she was kind of dim too ... think it came from inbreeding if you were to ask me ... anyway, the benifit came right after she reached puberty.

Young girl not only got a job out of it; but, a whole new life and her pictures are sold at $5.00 apiece and $25.00 with her autograph. Everybody loves the bearded lady ...don't they?

I'm assuming your question is directed at the pill.

The pill helps regulate a woman's period, which can be convenient. Since it is a hormonal-based agent, it has many effects on the body, which can benefit skin and other health issues.

It can have some less beneficial side effects, possibly including an increased risk of cancer in some women.

Generally it has had more positive effects than negative, but it is only one of several very good birth control methods. IUD's are also effective and have fewer side effects.

I know all this because I've been married twice, both times to women. In my second marriage our chosen birth control method was for me to get a vasectomy, a good method once you have decided you are done making babies.

Condoms help protect agains STDs and HIV.

If you are talking about hormone based birth control, such as the pill or the patch, they can significantly improve menstrual problems such as heavy bleeding and a lot of pain, and also regulate irregular periods. Some doctors suggest them for other conditions which may be subject to changes due to fluctuating hormones, such as skin problems and migraines. It is important to keep in mind, however, that hormone birth control also has a lot of risks associated with it, and can cause problems for even young women. If you decide on that method, you need to discuss the pros and cons fully with your doctor, and you also need to know about any family history of problems such as stroke or hypertension, as both have an effect on the safety of birth control hormones.

other than for birth control its most commonly used to treat menstrual irregularities arising out of hormonal imbalance. example polycystic ovarian syndrome. its make the cycle regular and as stated by someone earlier, so precise that you can tell the exact date. since hormonal irregularities are taken care of by balancing them it also means that other problems related to it are decreased, like decrease in acne, pain and cramps during periods or due to PMS. depending on the kind of pill there could be many more good effects, research is coming up with new fascinating facts about the pill which is absolutely opposite to earlier held beliefs.

For those women who have menstrual irregularities, it regulates them. This prevents very painful and heavy bleeding, which also helps (ironically) some people to get pregnant .
