Doctor says I should remove the packing but it is very painful. Should I pull it out slow or fast or let my boyfriend do it. I just want to get it over with and I am so nervous.

Honestly, My husband had this.... Did they tell you to clean it with saline solution? If so, let a jug warm to room temp or place container in warm water. When getting ready to remove the "packing" this will ease the process, or if you can shower let the water run over the area for a few minutes to ensure the bandage has not become stuck to your healthy skin. Remember your dealing with healing tissue, careful in removing the old because new tissue is growing back. Good Luck. Feel better soon.

I am not an RN but have had a lot of nursing related training and did this once for a friend. It is not a serious thing but nevertheless scary for most people. Just pull it out and follow Drs instructions. I had to use my lunch break to visit my friend everyday and change her packing after a sugery because she was afraid. You should let your boyfriend do it. Tell him not to yank it out like there's no tomorrow, or go so slow that you're checking your watch either. Find a happy medium and get it done. It will be fine it just seems bad because it's nasty , and the thought of a "hole" in you adds the creepy factor. It's not that serious, so just do what doc says. It's already healed in the places that count ,so there won't be a "hole to your insides" or anything. Take your painkillers a half hour before he does it.

I just read in a magazine today about a woman who had a boil lanced, but it was improperly treated and it contracted a strain of staph. She almost lost her leg. She said getting staph is not just a 'hospital' thing anymore.
Be careful, and if you need extra advice, call your doctor's answering service.
