I need some advice on how to get rid of blackheads and also make my face less oily. I've never really had acne, in my teens i would just get random breakouts or random zits. Lately, i've noticed that by mid-day, my nose, cheeks and chin become really oily. I've tried different moisturziers and even using none at all, and nothing is working. I'm currently using Physician's Formula (talc free) powder to even out my skin tone, (it's kind of pink along my cheeks and nose). All in all, my skin isn't really that bad, I just hate that it gets so oily, it makes me feel so gross.I don't know what to do for it, without spending a bunch of money to fix it. I don't know if it's the make-up i'm using or moisturizer, or what... i've never really had this problem. Any suggestions?

I've just turned 30 and had the same problem in my late 20's. I tackled the problem and here is what I found out...

First of all if you use cheap soap to wash your face - stop because cheap soaps damage your skin and will either make your skin oily or dry it out depending on the soap.

Second, if you use just water - you need to use more than that.

The only thing that really makes a difference is to spend a little money regularly on good face care products. I don't know where you live but if you have access to a Clinique counter, it has been my skin saver! Honest.

They do a facial cleansing soap bar for different skin types. The ladies will help you discern which one suits your skin's needs. Clinique has a whole range of products, but if you are tight for cash, I would seriously just invest some money in two things. A bar of their facial soap (for your skin-type) and one of their facial moisturising gels (not lotion). Their products are not full of perfumes and they are gentle but effective on your skin.

Those two things together, used morning and night will really help your skin. I have been there and I know what you're going through. It's frustrating because I'm sure you never thought that at your age you would be dealing with skin problems. Neither did I - thank goodness for Clinique!

Either way, I hope you work it out! Good Luck!

For the blackheads ... Try using a mud mask to help dry up the oily pores. You can use a mud mask a few times a week in the areas your skin is more prone to blackheads or breakouts. Make sure your makeup is oil free. Also use a three step facial process no more than twice a day. Over washing can send your pores into overdrive to produce more oils. You want to use a gentle facial soap or cleanser, a toner, and oil free moisturizer. Also use the process of elimination to figure out what is causing the redness. Use a different foundation but use everything else. If that doesn't make the red go away. Use the old foundation with a new moisturizer and etc. until you find out what causes it. If all else fails see the dermatologist. It could be something else other than skin products.

Also our skin can sometimes change as we get older and sometimes have to change our routines to accommodate the new changes.
