What is wrong with being close minded? Open minded is what has gotten the world into so much chaos in the first place, close minded then everyone stays comfortable in their own world...does that not make sense???

The problem is that there are those who are close-minded who are wrong, but will not admit or see that they are wrong because they are unwilling to entertain any other points of views, or beliefs.

I agree that some people are so open minded their brains have fallen out, but being totally close minded is not the answer either.
What I would like to see is open discussion, publicly displayed for all the world to see, in which all the important questions could be debated by the best representatives of each, with all information provided, and then people could make their decisions based upon that. Those who continued to go in certain paths, especially those proven to be wrong, or incorrect would have no excuse for doing so other than emotion and should then be labled as intellectually dishonest, or worse.

But alas that will never happen as there are too many people holding on to too much power...

I agree with your sentiments. I think that thinking too much can cause more damage than good. I think the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible pointed that out to me, perhaps indirectly, but I've observed this in some of the questions and answers on Yahoo Answers and I've concluded that some people waste too much time re-considering what they already know, and over thinking problems.
I think that's part of what Liberalism is about. It's all these ideas that sound great, but mankind has been around for thousands of years and have figured out the solutions to most problems.
But on the other hand. If you are narrow minded, and are wrong at the same time, there's no hope of you being right. So you should keep an open mind. I actually have an economy of thought that is to believe anything that I read, or hear, unless there is some reason to not believe it. That sounds really too open minded, but actually it's just the opposite. You will soon find that 99 percent of what you read or hear you have reason to NOT believe it, so you tend to not believe anything and you don't waste ANY time re-thinking what you already know to be false.
Does that make sense? For example I don't read or believe anythign that the New York Times or Washington Post writes, because they have lost all credibiltity with me. The truth will come out in some other publication that has better credibility with me, like Pravda (just kidding). Actually I read Pravda occasionally so that I know what kind of propaganda is coming next in the mainstream media or form Universities full of marxist professors.

It's amazing how easy it is to filter out the nonsense really.
One book that has not lost any credibility is the Bible. I've read it alot, and I have only found some really petty discrepancies that really only are trivial in nature. There are some difficult apparently contradicting things, but that's only due to my lack of understanding. I'm even open minded about most of the translations of the Bible. It's really nice to be secure in your thoughts, and still be open minded.

I don't think narrow minded people are automatically wrong, but if they are wrong, they'll never know what's right. If an open minded person is wrong, then they would be able to accept it and learn from it. It makes it a lot easier to compromise and learn and accept other people if you have an open mind. If everyone was narrow minded, it would be harder for people to get along and nothing would ever change. If everyone had always been narrow minded, we would probably still think the earth was flat. Even if we had the proof it was round we might still ignore it because we'd be to uncomfortable changing what we believe.

You only become closed minded when everything around you seems to be wrong, and you alone seem to be right.
Unless the facts add up are you never acutally right.
When all the facts add, go ahead be closed minded.
But there is just not enough evidence to support any theory that would keep a person closed mind, rather it be the bible or the quaran, or the delcartion of indepence.
We all have our ways of looking at things, unless we can look at them with open eyes, we are not looking at them at all.

I even have had lots occurring the final week and function positioned not something here in numerous days. i might prefer to envision what you're bearing on in case you may provide me a link or question to envision. while you're speaking approximately me, then i will categorically state that maximum atheists are only as close-minded as Bapticostals. I went from an quite fundamentalist Christian historic past to being an atheistic agnostic. i come across Hitchens, Dawkins et alii to be rank amateurs so a strategies as faith bashing. I even have yet to take heed to a Christian to be very useful declaring the holes interior the fairly some colleges of atheistic thought, yet to me they're very obtrusive. as quickly as I ask an atheist to contemplate something I even have examine and only approximately right now get a respond calling me a mindless Christian, then the only end i'm able to come to is there is going yet another knee-jerk psychological atheist. i'm a Baha'i now after some years of learn, and that i've got yet to locate any coherent, rational demonstration the Baha'i faith is something different than what it claims to be. in case you like to be lazy and not even check out what I ask, it fairly is one undertaking, yet do not make statements that tutor previous any doubt you're ignorant and closed-minded and then declare you are the alternative. With few exceptions, as quickly as I hear or examine somebody make a fact inclusive of "i will by no skill..." (Christopher Hitchens, et alii), or "All religions...." (Richard Dawkins, et alii) then i'm able to basically end that individual is a narrow minded individual certainly, quite as quickly as I can so unquestionably and easily tutor the indisputable fact that they only made to be fake previous question. as a strategies because of the fact the declare there is not any information for God and faith being genuine. unquestionably, there is very lots of information. in case you have not chanced on it, you basically provide up finding too quickly and made up your thoughts devoid of listening to all of the information. Is that not the definition of being closed-minded? I only call it as I see it. I too, wish greater atheists might open their minds. so a strategies, everybody that regarded at it long adequate and heavily adequate grew to grow to be a Baha'i. there's a reason of that.

It's the closed minded people who believe the sterotypes. Why would you want to live that way? Isn't that boring?
