It can be 3-5 pages, but I feel stuck as I feel there are so many important events in my life. I'm not sure how much to put in or leave out. I have a rough outline that starts at birth and an intro to my family. Then I split it up into elementary, junior high, high school, and college.
But I don't want to just list it. I guess I would like some suggestions on how to have better transitions between events in each section...

First - you need to decide the purpose of the autobiography.
Second - hit ONLY the highlights - not the minute details.
Third - They don't want your family info - just want to know about you.. A quick summary (as the oldest girl in a poor rural farm family of 6 kids, I quickly learned...blah, blah, blah...and taught my siblings..blah, blah blah...) Get the drift - learned and taught are the key words.
Fourth - they are testing your writing/teaching skills in autobiography - can you hold students interest, can you teach, etc.

Write it like you were doing a newspaper profile about someone else: include Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How in the narrative.
