Press and hold down the control alt keys and hit delete, when a window opens up click on the appropriate radio box to terminate it. That should do it. Then restart your computer and do some maintenance like cleaning up your system. That is clear up temporary Internet files, cookies, history cashe and after that do a check disk and defrag. And when you get through with all these, go to Windows updates and update your system
Good luck

If you are on XP then hit ctrl, alt, del at the same time once. Then find the mediaplayer, WMP.exe and click it and hit stop process. You can always reboot the pc to clear all errors. If it won't shut down normally, then hold the power button in for about 5 secs and it'll shut down.

just restart your windows by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del (twice), if this also doesn't work. Just hold your PC's power off button for 10 seconds and this will shut down your PC.
