Derek Jeter! He should and I think will get the award. While the Yankee lineup was decimated with injuries and while Joe Torre was trying to put together the right combinations, Jeter was the steady influence. Key hits sparked the Yankees on many occasions and was the key to the 5 game swipe of the Red Sox in August. That pretty much buried Boston and pushed the Yankees to the division title. Simply stated, Jeter is the reason the Yankees win.

Who deserves the award: the argument can be raised on mainly three players, Jermaine Dye, David Ortiz, and Derek Jeter (there are a couple others close but these are the top three)

Who will win: more than likely Derek Jeter, he has the benefit of playing in front of the largest media contingent day in and day out, as well as having the advantage of voters who are unable to attend being able to catch most games either broadcast nationally or on the YES! network.

That being said Derek Jeter is having a great season this year and while I more believe Jermaine Dye deserves the award it is Jeter's to lose. Papi will be hampered by the fact that he doesn't play the field (always plays some role every year in AL MVP voting).

David Ortiz deserves it over Jeter. Jeter hasn't been the man in helping the Yankees win. The have the all star team playing every game behind him so it's easy to look good. Ortiz has taken the Red Sox and carried them on his shoulders.

I really think Jeter should win that MVP...without him where were the Yankees been right now? everyone was saying that the Yankees have no chance this year, but look where they are right now. aren't Jeter should win the AL MVP?! plus Jeter is doing it every single year!!! who else is better than Derek Jeter?
bottom line is this --> JETER FOR MVP!!!

being a cardinal fan for fifty years, i hate the yankees, but i think jeter will get it. ortiz (or any other DH) shouldn't even be eligible. if you can't play the field, you can't play the game.
Dye, morneau, and others have good numbers, but jeter brings something else to the table: heart.
his will to win is what really makes him great.
i sure wish we had him at ss in stl.

Big Papi deserves it, but Jeter will probably get it. NY media bias and National League city baseball writers not taking a DH seriously

Kevin Youkilis, hands down. there has been numerous communicate approximately Pedroia, Hamilton and Quentin to boot, yet Youk performs gold glove high quality protection, is hitting nicely over 3 hundred with 25+ HR and one hundred+ RBIs and has extremely stepped up and filled the void left by skill of Manny leaving city. I doubt he will win it, yet he could desire to.
