Can you see anything in the soaps on television that resembles the life you lead?

e.g. Home & Away, Eastenders, Emmerdale Farm

Do the television programmes give a glimpse of life in the country. I saw a wombat on "Home & Away" but I gave up watching before any kangaroos came on. Nobody gets dog's **** on their shoes, or roo ****, or do they?

Well my mum should to work in cafe like Jane in EastEnders and I remember a teacher wore a skirt like Viv in Emmerdale and I've been on beach like those in Home & Away! But I have never been kidnapped by a family member and I have never known any1 who killed their husband with a doorstop or I've never lived in a place where someone is killed, ripped off or hit by tidal waves nearly every week!!

Soaps reflect real life????

I like the corporate storylines on "The Young and the Restless. The manipulating, wheeling and dealing all seem true to life to me.There are slutty office girls, savy business women and interpersonal relationships. One of the main characters is having a huge health crisis and the doctors are having difficulty in prescribing the correct medication for him. He's devastated that he isn't able to be the strong man that was before the illness. We're watching him struggle with this condition and how it affects his family. Very true to life. There's a teen with weight issues and she's getting picked on by other girls. There's also a storyline involving a man and his mother who were persecuted because of their religion. And thats only a few of the storylines, lol.

In some ways eastenders is ,for example,: when Stacy found out she was pregnant she went to ask the father what to do and they decided 2 av a abortion and if were 16 and plans 4 da future wouldn't u? holly oaks has a bit of truth like when Amy heard she was pregnant ( OK i guess most of DA truth is on being pregnant) she couldn't tell her parents and if u were 14 (or was it 15) and pregnant ( even though i think ur a man ) would u tell ur parents?

We watch Neighbours.

It seems that in Australia, it takes about 6 months to train to be a lawyer, about 1 year to become a doctor, and all this is a bit of a waste of time because there is only one doctor in the whole of Australia and only one lawyer (or so it seems) and both are in Neighbours.

And everyone seems to get an easy life -- good jobs fall into their lap: inheritance money comes from nowhere; people get themselves into social jams because of their own idiocy, and escape the consequences.

Just like real life?

Soaps are nerver like 'normal' everyday life. This is because people watch them to get away from their own tedious lives, and if soaps were really just like real life then they would be too boring to watch.
They are greatly exaggerated out of necessity. Who would watch a day in the life of someone who goes to work, gets home and watches soaps all night?

They choose to go see a film but never mention specifics, just as they never talk about soaps or reality TV shows...

And nobody on Ramsay Street or Summer Bay checks under loo seats for Funnel Web Spiders

Some shows are like real life.. Like Rosanne, and in the country you are likely to get dog poo or cow patties on your shoes if you don't watch where you are walking. Soaps are mainly in hospitals and big corporations and it seems that every one has slept with everyone i don't know of any town in Canada that has happened it. maybe some desolate town up north where they never see new people

nope. everybody in the soaps are 1) rich! 2) always referred to by first and last name. lol 3) sleeping with everybody in their circle, 4) getting convicted of crimes and serving virtually no time....not to mention those who never go to jail at all for murder, and most importantly, 5) in soaps, when you die, your body is never found so they can always find a way to bring u back :)

not all the soaps are like real life some of them are factitious but still they must include a real elements like characters who are real humans but originally any work of art written watched or audible should parody real life.
