If you listen to talk radio, all of the ideas they want to push onto the middle east are basically liberal ideas.

Of course. Compared to those crazie Islamic Terrorists anything is Liberal. No great revelation there, but they are not saying, "Hey Iran should become a socialist country, and have government funded medical insurance." Are they? They are saying that we have a right to be free to choose our religion. That's not liberal, it's just that probably your view of conservatives may be distorted to think that conservatives are against liberty. Nothing could be futher than the truth. I think the difference between Liberals and Conservatives is that Conservatives believe that freedom is a God given right, that isn't free. Liberals seem to think that freedom is just a better way, and lawyers protect it. That's kind of how I see it. I'm just trying to contrast the views.
In other words, you might get a Liberal lawyer to fight for your freedom, but someone also died for your freedom too.

I think you might be confusing "classical liberalism" with "American liberalism". The United States is a liberal democracy - that doesn't mean it's a nation of liberal Democrats. See #1

That being said, liberal democracy is not a cookie-cutter that can be applied to every nation. The middle-east in the 21st century is not the same as the United States in the 18th century. The nations of the middle-east are not identical to each other. So its rather naive to think a middle-east state can just adopt a constitution in the liberal democrary "mold" and everything will work out fine.It took decades for the U.S. to develop a constitution with a bill of rights, and nearly two hundred years for the Supreme Court to interpret those rights as extending to all citizens.

What does liberalism mean to you? There are basic tenets of liberalism established by our founding fathers that are not in dispute...freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to vote for all adults. You may not know this, but the majority of countries (including the middle east) do not enjoy these privileges. Just because conservatives want to see these rights extended in the middle east does not make them hypocrites. The American version of Liberalism is something very far removed from what our founding fathers intended, and indeed what most nations would call by that name (with the exception of Europe). Abortion on demand, open borders, gun control, high taxes, welfare, legalized drugs, weak security...this is unfortunately what today's liberal want for their country. American conservatism is not radical if you compare it to the world's standard. We don't stone women to death in the streets for cheating on their husbands. We don't put people in prison for speaking out against the government. I think you just hate conservatism because it is associated with Bush and that is the fashionable thing to do, bash Bush. Really, you don't know the facts, you're just following the crowd. Have a good day!

Yes, I have looked into this a lot.

It all has to do with their religion. Christians' vision is of getting the Middle East away from Islam and more toward Christianity. They would probably even settle for secularism, anything but Islam, as far as Christian extremists are concerned. But this is more of a secret, underlying religious agenda for the wars going on in the Middle East. Christians try to build broad support for their religious agendas by talking about legitimate things that most people support, like democracy or freedom but, in reality, it's basically a cover for the extreme Christians' religious agenda, in my view.

We must squash all forms of religious extremism.

it truly is contained in the interest of the multi-nationwide company entities attempting to shelter the oil contained in the middle East to save the governments of each and every u . s . fragmented and at odds with one yet another. there'll in no way be cohesion in this area because too many indivuals are enmeshed contained in the limitless cycle of arguements on the problem of non secular and cultural alterations. see you later as they proceed to concentration on their alterations there'll be no cohesion, no remember how a lot outsiders attempt to rigidity it on them or deprive it from them.

yes... it's quite Ironic...

the prevailing attitude seems to be "we hate liberal ideas"... until it's 50 years down the road, then they take credit for what they did...

scubadog3... it's common knowledge the health care will be state funded in Iraq... and the schools are too... and the utilities... and the roads will be... it's a socialist paradise they are trying to build over there...

there are many social democracies in the world... the ideas are not incompatable...

HAHAHAHA
