Windows 2000 came before XP. It is similar in many ways to XP, but was never intended for home use. 2003 is a new operating system for servers only that was released after XP.

accept as true with the 1st post: lots has replaced between the server variations. 2000 is a server flavour of 2000 professional (comparable codebase) 2003 is a server flavour of XP (comparable codebase) 2008 is a server flavour of Vista 2008R2, i've got faith relies off of residing house windows 7.

They are similar obviously 2003 replaced 200. You can get them to play together if you are careful.
2003 has an extended schema
2003 allows for forests of domains and therfore pre-defined trust relationships to exist between domains.
2003 doesn't allow you to log on to your own server after a bad shutdown without explaining why. Of course this is stupid because you need to log on first to find out why.
What more did you want to know? It's a very broad question.

Servers are machines/computers that process information for big public and private networks. So if you are just a user stick to your PC and forget about servers.
