I've been dumped. I've dumped people as well. But all of them were handled very, very poorly. What are your tips for being civil, kind and thoughtful in how you do this? Is there a particular time, setting or choice of words that tell the truth but do so without being so hurtful? Your help is greatly appreciated.

It all depends on the situation. If there was cheating involved then, it will be messy. But if its something like, you don't see eye to eye anymore, or your other half simply does not make you happy anymore, just tell her/him exactly what you feel. If that person really cares about you, she or he will want to see you happy even if it is with someone else.

My famous break up statements are ~ " It's not you , it's me ~ I think we need a change ! ~ I want to expand my horizons and I can't do that being tied down to one person ! " those all get the point across and get the conversation moving in your direction to finalize and dissolve the relationship. Just keep cool and calm !

I would just tell them...you need to sit them down for a talk...just explain that your lives are moving in different directions...and you dont think it's fair to them to stay in this relationship...when your heart is not in it....sometimes people grow apart....and you have to move on....say you want to be honest because you care about them........I remember my aunt saying "Where one door closes, another one opens." Good luck.
