The human infant brain, well the part designated for storing learned information, is empty at birth. It really is like a sponge just waiting to soak up new information. I am not talking about the parts that control breathing, heart rate, etc. This learning ability of your little one is, how can I put this, an AWESOME thing. Keep filling the brain up with information. Kids will mimic their parents. part of that is realising that whining and crying is not a really effective method of communication. Those grown ups are doing something different. They seem to get what they want easier and more quickly. Hrmm, gonna have to learn that talking thing I guess. Even though a 300+ pound muscled up NFL linebacker will coo and baby-talk to a newborn, try not to--yeah it's tough, but try. Just talk to them. Help them learn to talk. Give them that information for their brain to soak up. I never talked baby talk to any of my 8 nieces and nephews..nor will I to my 3 great-neices. They all learned to communicate effectively by talking at a rather early age. The babbling is the fact that she might not be looking close enough at your mouth to see how you form the sounds you do, so she just makes sounds of her own for now.
This learning ability is a good thing. Promote and nurture it her whole life. Read a book in front of her and soon she'll want a book of her own to read too. Consider yourself fortunate.

Sounds about right. Babies can learn things incredibly fast. My daughter is 8 months and at 6 months I started teaching her sign language. She gets it now. My son was about the same as your daughter. Keep up the good work and don't worry if she doesn't pick up on something right away. She won't be going into grade 12 and not know where her knee is. God Bless

My 17 month old son does the same thing only he doesn't know fingers yet, but he does know bum! He also makes farting noises & slaps his 3 year old sisters butt all while laughing! Kids really know more than we give them credit for. He does say some words, they sound funny so I have to listen carefully, plus he makes up words for different things like downstairs is dowdow! Your baby sounds like she's definitely not behind in knowledge, so good job! The more attention they get the better!

That is a perfect example of a child who has interaction with adults. You can tell if you talk to or with your daughter, because they will pick things up quickly. She is definately not neglected, which is a good thing. Keep up the good work mom, and she will amaze you even more! My daughter did the same thing, and in kindergarten, the skipped the 1st grade and put her in second. Their minds are open if someone will just talk! Good parenting!

I'm not sure about her pointing out the body parts, I'd imagine that's a good thing at that age. But you might want to see about her talking. My son is only 6 months old and talks.

That's well within the realm of normal. Kids' 'receptive' language skills are waaaay ahead of their 'productive' language skills. Meaning, that your child will know what hundreds (even thousands) of words mean before she says them.
By the way, at age two, it's typical for a child to have a basic vocabulary and be able to put together two words with meaning, that a family member can understand, even if everyone else can't. (i.e. "Mommy, bubba!" if that's her word for bottle, or "kitty up", that kind of thing.)

My son is 12 month (today!) and he babbles ALOT but no real words. He doesn't seem to concerned about much right now. Except, maybe, for when he is going to eat next!

Personally I think she is right on track. My bestfriend son is 13 months, and he knows hair, nose, kiss( he will actually give you a kiss), hands, toes, belly, ear, mouth, and ding ding (penis) and he says daddy, momma, hi, by, his sister, aunt and my names, and he blows kisses if you ask him to blow kisses. So anyways you can kinda compare to that. She sounds very smart good luck to the both of you!!

that is good. Babies learn things way before they talk. that is why so many people tech baby sign now a days.. cause the brain is way ahead of learning a new language

Wow! Sounds like she's a genius. You should get her IQ tested. Go to a psychologist that specializes in toddlers. They'll have tose tests available.
