yes it will with time damage all appliances within the smokers area
i used to fix tv many years ago and smokers dont sit right in front of their tv . but when a set was inspected inside you could find it covered in a dark yellowy brown residue which was over most components in the tv and especially around the high voltage section causing tracking to occur and other problems like causing dust to stick onto components.
so my advice to you is if it can do that to something 6 feet away
it aint no good for you and your pc.

Smoking will not damage your computer as such apart from discolouring the plastic Bessel of the monitor or the colour of the computer tower/desktop.
A friend of mine smokes and has had the same computer going back 8 years and still working well with no replacement hardware as yet.
The tar in the smoke is only a problem if it lingers around, the speed of the smoke as it is pushed round inside the computer means that very little tar is dropped. But because the tar floats slowly past the monitor etc the tar is deposited which over time will discolour it. The best way of removing the discolouration is using WD40 or white spirit as it disperses greasy based dirt, never use methylated spirits and if the surface is a smooth plastic surface don't use white spirit either as it will dull the surface.
Hope this helps

It depends on where the fans are on the computer, how close you sit next to fan sucking in air into the computer. Smoke won't damage the computer but ash will build up over time on the fan blades and when you open up your computer there will be an ash/tar residue inside (again this will take a bit of time). I would assume if the ash/tar combination build up on critical areas, for eg on a heat sink etc this would reduce its efficiency and hence cause damage to the computer.

Having opened up a computer used by my boss - a 40 a day smoker - the answer is yes!
The fans, which obviously draw more air through than simply being exposed to the fumes, were gummed up and there was tar on the circuit boards generally and on the filters. It tends too to stick room dust onto things and is not easy to blow off.
The tar also got into the printer.
BUT the worst bit for non smokers was the keyboard. Tar from the cigarettes had got onto his fingers and then onto the keys making them 'real yucky'. It had not reached the point where the keys stuck due to the condense. Using that computer made my fingers STINK!
BTW - he got cancer!
DO NOT SMOKE IT REALLY IS BAD FOR YOU. IT'S NOT JUST GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA.

It will decrease the life of your computer, because the tar in the smoke causes problems. But I don't think smoking a little around it is a big problem. Computers these days are so temporary that if there is a weakness in a component something other than smoking will break it. You probably will end up replacing your keyboards more often, but if you have a cheap keyboard big deal.

Yes. Cigarette smoke contains - among other poisons - tar. Tar is a sticky substance which adheres to everything it comes into contact with - including you, your clothes, your computers fan / screen / etc.
Obviously, over time, this will damage your computer in much the same way as it damages you.

The first thing to go will be the keyboard. Not a good idea to smoke over your computer. Every computer user knows that computers have a mind of their own. They have to be treated like sulky three year old children, otherwise they'll lie down, beat their heels on the floor and refuse to do anything you ask of them.

It will cause a buildup of dust on the fan blades and clog the air vent, especially on a laptop. If you plan to continue smoking around your computer, get a can of compressed air from an electronics store to help reduce the buildup.

I have been told to refrain from smoking near to my computer.
At least think of your living room curtains - they get brown with nicotine or tar. Also smoking creates a lot of dust and ash - this then gets into the vents on your computer over time too. So fare as you will, but yes over time it certainly can get gunked up. It also shows on the inner lid of my printer!!!

yes it can damage it with deposits of chemicals that get onto the boards and circuitry. Smoking can do considerable damage to fans because the tar that gets on the fan makes dust stick to it.
