My four grandparents were all European-born. Two of them on my mother's side were Polish, born in what was then Austria. The others were German, one born in Germany and the other in Russia.
Their early lives were spent in poverty, persecution, exploitation and fear. All four immigrated to the United States around the turn of the century (1900).
They were able to work and prosper in this country. There might have been other places this could have happened, but this was the one where it happened. I am grateful.
I do consider America to be the greatest and most free nation in the world. We are not a perfect country--no country is. But we beat all of my nations of origin.
As long as we participate as citizens we can keep it free and make it better. If we get lazy we deserve the failure that could lead to.

Because it is hands-down the best place on Earth. We have a system of laws that protect our freedoms.
One can be as successful as he or she is able to become without regard to race, sex, religion, or much of the other discrimination that people around the world face.
We have a standard of living that is envied around the globe. When you flip the switch, you know there is power to make the light work. When you lift the phone, you know there will be dial tone. When you turn on the faucet, you know the water is safe to drink. And if you don't have those things, there are people around who will help you get them. Even poor people have phones and tv's in America.
We feel responsible to try to help others around the world to have the nice things we have, and to help others in times of crisis. When there is an earthquake in Iran, who was the first one to respond? America. When the Russian sub the Kursk went down, who had a DSRV ready to go within hours to rescue the men? America. Who tries all the time to feed the hungry millions in Africa and around the world? America.
Where else in this Earth is there a country to compare?

Are you kidding? We can do anything we want, lawfully. We've got to have laws, but the laws are so unrestrictive compared to other countries. Other countries have laws too, like India. If a woman is raped in India, she must have 4 male witnesses, willing to testify. If she proceeds with her rape charge and no man shows up to testify, she will be charged with adultery The penalty for adultery is death. This is only ONE example, there are hundreds more in the world. We are sooooooo fortunate to live here and have the freedoms we use daily. I'm not pro-government by any means or anything like that. I just feel lucky to have been born here. I read the news and internet and feel really free.

I have spent a lot of time in the Mideast - Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to be specific. and I believe you can"t answer a question like yours so easily. You really have to understand how other people live without freedom of movement and speech; in poverty and oppression to understand with all our faults how lucky we are to be Americans. Read , research travel and most of us will appreciate. We are all different and I respect your right to disagree Because I Can

that's all relative. i for my area do no longer care approximately evaluating what is going on in united statesa. to different international locations. that's a brainwashing technique utilized by skill of the republican perfect-wing extremists as a fashion to make human beings forget approximately how they have been victimized right here interior the States. that's all it extremely is. asserting i'm happy that I stay in united statesa. particularly than a God forsaken distant places us of a is comparable to asserting i'm happy I stay in united statesa. particularly than on the exterior of the solar. that's in simple terms as intellectually cheating. if certainty be recommended, the WW2 era, my father's era, is the only era to savour the yankee dream...the prospect to prosper and domicile possession. My era is being cheated out of the yankee dream, even however we worked in simple terms as no longer hassle-free as our fathers and mothers to attain it. the yankee dream has became right into a lie.
