Too early to tell? There's five games left in the season! The MVP award is based on regular season only

Soriano is a very deserving person, I completely forgot about him. I guess that's what happens when your team isn't a winner, you don't get the recognition you deserve. Hopefully the voters don't overlook him based on his teams record, though I don't think he will win it.

The award is for the Most Valuable Player. If Philly doesn't make the playoffs, you could argue that Philly could miss the playoffs without Ryan Howard. If Philly makes the playoffs, he's definitely MVP, because there's no way they make it without him. If Philly misses the playoffs and the Cardinals make the playoffs, Albert Pujols is MVP. If the Cards and Phils both miss the playoffs, a case can be made for David Wright or maybe even Trevor Hoffman (especially if the Padres make the playoffs). However, you can also argue that the Phils would be scraping the cellar floor without Ryan Howard, so maybe he is MVP, although you could use the same argument for Albert Pujols and the Cardinals. Soooo... what all this means is that with 5 games left in the season, it's still too early to say who is the Most Valuable Player.

If you were to put a gun to my head, however, and force me to choose one, this Cardinals fan would have to choose Ryan Howard.

The top 2 vote getters will be Howard and Pujols. The argument for Howard leading the Phillies to the Wild Card is legitimate, but Pujols might be in the mindset of many voters since he should have won previous MVPs in the past years if not for Barry Bonds. Ryan is a second-year man and some voters might think he'll need a couple more years to establish himself. I think the recent Mets slump hurt Beltran's and Wright's chances. And won't Soriano's 40-40 year bring him some consideration?

I have to give the edge to Ryan Howard because of the turnaround he has given his team even without Abreu. They are still in playoff contention if they can make one last run at it in the next 5 days they will be in over the Dodgers.

I'd like to see Albert get it, but I think it will be Ryan Howard. No one mentioned that Howard is from St. Louis.

as a cards fan for fifty years, i'd like to see albert get it because he was robbed by that cheater in sf. i refuse to say or type his name. but two wrongs don't make a right, (but three lefts do), so i think howard will win it. if i had a vote, it would be for soriano. soriano winning would be sweet irony because the last time a losing team player won it was andre dawson with montreal, unless my memory fails me.
