Be happy your sweetheart is sleeping eight hours. As long as he/she is eating enough when they are awake, I wouldn't worry about it. Let your doctor know your concerns, but it sounds like if your little one is able to sleep this long, most likely he/she doesn't need milk right then and there. Your sweetie is 4 months old and as long as they are developing normal I really wouldn't worry about it too much :)

At this point your breastfeeding is well established and as long as he is of normal weight I would only breastfeed when he wants too. They will let you know when they are hungry whether you are formula feeding or breastfeeding...Don't stress. Let a sleeping baby sleep so you can rest too.
Mine slept sometimes 10-12 hours per night at that point and is now 10 months and a happy, healthy boy.

Sweethart that is a blessing in disguise!!! My son is 6 months and only will sleep 3-4 hours at a time!!! Take advantage and get some sleep. You baby will wake up when he or she is Hungary! If your really concerned ask your doc. Good Luck, and send some sleep all night dust my way!!

Nope. He knows when he is hungry, and by now his 4 hour feedings will start to span out. If you feed him right before bed, let him sleep thru the night, he will be hungry first thing in the morning. Let him sleep mom, and try and get some rest yourself.

My doc told me the same thing Serena said. My daughter was sleeping through the night at that age too. My mom told me to wake her every four hours to feed her, so I did. When I told the pediatrician this, she said as long as munchkin was eating good, and putting on weight, I needn't worry about waking her. But by this time, I had gotten my daughter used to waking every four hours, and she had to adjust back. It must've been alright, my daughter is 9 now! And, no problems. But it is always good to check with doc first, to make sure there is no concerns first, like Serena said. =)

of course NOT, don't wake him up!

many parents would consider you very lucky to have a 4 month old who can already sleep for 8 hours at a time!

babies that age would typically need about 5 meals a day, and as long as he's getting them (I assume further apart at night, closer apart during the day), all is fine.

No, if the baby sleeps through the night, and isa gaining weight, that's fine. If he sleeps8 hours at a time during the day as well, wake him every 4 hours to nurse. my oldest was like that, She just wanted to sleep all the time & we had to wake her up to eat.

Yes! I made the mistake of letting my baby sleep as long as she wanted to and my milk supply suffered for it and I ended up going on metocloprimide to increase it! Not a good idea if you have any hint of ppd. If you don't wake her up cause you need the sleep then pump both breasts at least...

Your baby will let you know when he's hungry. Enjoy the fact that he's sleeping 8 hours. Hopefully its at night so you can sleep too.

you are so lucky...lol. but i know what you mean. it scared me too when my daughter would sleep straight through the night. this is not what the doctor had told me to expect. but i guess at a few days old what do u do?? it's not like they can go shopping. babies sleep because they're supposed to. enjoy it, my daughter's 3 years old now...and she doesn't nap all day. trust me you're gonna need the rest for these later years.
