"Bandwidth" is such a tricky thing. Internet speed is governed by three speeds. Your local network speed (your ISP, in this case SBC), the bandwidth of the page server you are currently surfing on, and the "Internet" - i.e. that big nebulous cloud of servers, routers, and switches that are between you and the page you want.

If your DSL modem is hooked directly to your computer, all you can do locally is make sure you have a 100Mb ethernet card (anything bought in the last 4 years should be at that speed).

If you have a switch or router or firewall in the mix, make sure it is a 100 Mb device.

If all the devices on your net are 100Mb, you've done all you can do on your end. It's up to your provider to give you the best service available beyond that.

alright everything that everyone else has told you is a good thing to do is general maintenance and up keep on your computer the other thing that is going to affect the way your laptop runs is if its plugged straight into the connection or if its wireless (if it has been set up as wireless at one point and is no longer on a wireless conection you need to go into control panel then into network connections and take out the wireless internet connection) the other thing that will affect how your computer runs is not just the ram but what kind of processor you have older ones dont run as fast no matter how much ram you shove into your lap top to find out what you are running for a motherboard (processor) go into your start then into programs into accessories then into system tools (some just say tools) then into system info and what should automatically come up is system summary. in the system summary what you want to look at is the processor usually at the very end of the techno babble is what MHZ speed you are running. once you have all the information about your sytem go to the link at the bottom of the page sign up for the free tech forum and they can asnwer all your questions in about 24 hrs usually. they are awesome they havent ever steared me wrong yet. hopefully this helps in conjunction with what the others have told you already. the one thing i noticed that no one has yet mentioned is that sometimes depending on where you are cable internet can be 5x faster the a dsl connection..........might be worth a look into switching providers or from dsl to cable

The problem probably lies in your RAM or Random Access Memory. 512MB will only allow your processor to process so much information at a time. 512MB to be exact. Try having more RAM put in. That should speed things up for ya a bit. I definitely suggest a professional doing this. There are things you need to know before you start digging around in a computer case. Hope this helps. ;-)

I HAVE THE SAME THING AND IT'S PRETTY FAST I CAN SEE ALL KIND OF VIDEOS
THERE IS ALWAY GOING TO BE A BUFFERING TIME FOR EVERY MEDIA PLAYER. DSL IS LIMITED TO A POINT, BUT IT'S FAST ENOUGHT TO WORK.
THE ONLY THINGS FASTER THEN DSL IS CABLE INTERNET. IF YOU HAVE DSL PRO IT SHOULD ALLOW YOU TO DOWNLOAD PRETTY FAST AND VIEW VIDEOS, SOMETIMES WEBSITES LOAD SLOW DUE TO SERVER PROBLEMS AND AND WEB TRAFFIC.
TRY CLEARING YOUR INTERNET EXPLORE CACHE. GO TO TOOL, INTERNET OPTIONS, GENERAL TAB, SETTINGS, MOVE THE SLIDER TO 5 MG CLICK APPLY.
THEN INCREASE THE AMOUNT AGAIN TO ABOUT 2250MB.
THEN RUN DISK CLEAN UP.
START MENU, ACCESORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, DISKCLEANUP.
AND DEFRAG YOUR COMPUTER ONCE IN A WHILE IS LOCATED IN SYSTEM TOOLS ALSO.
IF YOU NEED MORE HELP LATIN_MAN_7 IS MY YAHOO ID. ALSO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAM CALL CCLEANER. IT WILL EMPTY ALL SORT OF FILE FROM ALOT OF PROGRAMS IN YOUR COMPUTER.

only have the internet on. close all other programs.

increase you memory or burn all PHOTOS or unused documents on a CD to alleviate your computer from clutter and unused space.

in other words. PHOTOS/papers/school stuff that you don't look and use monthly or daily should be burnt on a cd and deleted from computer. OR you can create several email drafts and attach you documents till you can find someone to burn them

HARD DRIVE is like a file cabinet.

MEMORY is like your desk,,,,,,the bigger the desk the more books and paper you can have available for you.

SMALLER memory-less programs activity less speed.

increase memory, or burn your unused docs/photos, or GET AN external hard drive.

Try d/ling a little prog called TCPOptimizer. Just type it in Google. Double click it and it will install. It should help at least a little. Good Luck.

Some quick fixes include restarting your modem and restarting your computer. See if you can't minimize network traffic (if there's anybody else sharing your connection) and do an adware/malware scan, as malware can drastically slow your computer.
