How many companies in NYSE composite index? Does this # of companies stay the same or does it change all the time?

The amount of companies in the NYSE composite varies according to how many companies are listed on the NYSE that satisfy the NYSE composite criteria (common shares, excludes closed end funds, ETFs, limited partnerships and derivatives).

Right now the number of companies listed on the NYSE is fairly static (new ones come, old ones go) so the actual number hasn't changed more than 1% since they introduced the new methodology back at the end of 2004.

There are currently around 2012 securities in the composite index.

Cheers,
Richard.
