My mom's response was always "I'll tell you when you're older." Of course by the time we were old enough, we had stopped asking because we had THAT day at school. Ya know, the one were everyone is divided by sex and taught the birds and the bees by crappy '80's tapes and teachers who blushed nearly as much as we did.
Its sad but true that most parents are letting TV and school teach kids about sex. I look at the condom ads in an appreciative manner, though. In my school it was taught that abstinence is the only method of safe-sex, something I never would have second guessed if not for those ads. I know that many more girls in my school would have had kids by the time we graduated if it werent for good old TV.

I think things like that should only be advertised during the times that children are in bed. If a child is watching tv at midnight, something isn't right. They should be sleeping.

Well, to me it depends on when they are advertising/showing them (and tampons/pads). If it is after 8.30pm, that's fine, but I completely disagree before that time. To reply to a child asking about them, I would be totally unaware in that situation. my last resort would be to pretend you didn't hear them and walk out of the room, which would come back and get you the next time.

I have no problem explaining to my child about condoms. However the time of day and context of the commercial may be hard to explain.

well if they can recognise a condom in 5 years and know what they are used for then the advertisement is successful...or would u rather teen pregnancies?

Jojo...there is STD commercials...and I don't think they should have condom commercials on tv either...or feminine product commericals if you know what I mean...it's kinda embarrassing!

Yes. Teach them young, and they won't die of AIDS.
I know about the "just say no" approach, and that's garbage. It didn't work with drugs or alcohol.
