i'm thinking of teaching in alaska... but i'm wondering the price of living and salary

My parents were teachers in King Cove, AK for a year. A gallon of milk was over $8.00. They made double what most teachers make here in the lower 48, but if you think about how much it costs to live there- it's not much different. Maybe if there were 2 of you working. Plus they had to get everything shipped in- their mail took up to 2 weeks to get out if the snow was really bad. Gas was over $3/gal all winter. If you really like isolation then go for it. But I would defiantly think about it.

it all depends on where you live.
in anchorage, the price of a 400000 house in a city in the lower 48, is about 200000 there.
salary.com can give you a salary for your job.

everyone i know that lived there moved back because it sucked so bad. you can't do ANYTHING in the winter. good luck. oh and the grocery stores are VERY expensive.
