click messenger -->privacy options --> archives --> select "save all of messeges option and click ok.
it will save ur chat hitory in xml format under document and settings folder.

If you are using yahoo messenger--click on the messenger tab, scroll down to and click on 'preferences', then click on 'archive'...this will allow you to select what you want to happen with your achives--save them, delete them, ect.
