DISSOCIAL: In English-speaking countries the term psychopathy is generally used with the meaning of a persistent personality disorder that is characterised by anti-social conduct. People in this category are not mentally ill in the sense of being psychotic or neurotic, nor are they necessarily mentally subnormal, but they come into conflict with society because of abnormalities in their personality.

Such people may behave in ways regarded as unethical or criminal by the rest of society. As a result the term psychopath can be used with pejorative overtones, implying dislike or censure. For this and other reasons (such as lack of a widely agreed definition), some psychiatrists avoid using the term; others hold that the term can be usefully maintained if applied carefully and without prejudice.

SwissMiss, Thanks for your comments, but why not just be honest? Instead of making excuses for the people that just cause lots of problems!

Terribly sorry that you have had such a sad expereince.

We are not devious - we are shrewd.
We are not envious (well, sometimes!) - we are community-oriented.
We are not dissocial - we are self-centered and sometimes insecure.

Overall, we are rural people. And, like in any village, we are wary of strangers at first. But if the strangers are proven to be friendly and open, then we accept them. We just need time to get to know you.

You must be kidding me. That is a horrible sweeping generalization. The Swiss have always been kind and generous to me. My friend worked for a Swiss gentlemen in Jasper and only had good things to say about him. He was kind, jovial, understanding, flexible, helpful and admirable. He was a self-made immigrant from a rural, working-class family who got an education in English Literature and Business Administration. He holds two degrees and speaks three languages. He is very kind and tolerant.

Most of the Swiss are like this, and very family-oriented, in love with nature and sports, and they are known for their love of the home, rugged individualism, anti-materialism, tolerance, kindness, flexibility, and love of crafts and cooking. I love Swiss food. Lowest income taxes in the world. Free-market economy. I think they're great, I just don't get the lack of gun control.

Not all are, but every nation really have some devious, envious and dissocial (?) citizens. It would be really hard for us to deal with these kinds of people. Just look and talk with the kind and gentle ones.

What specific actions, observations, behavior are you refering to that would lean to such a question? Unless you are bein sarcastic or satirical...

In my brief visit to Switzerland, I found the Swiss to be welcoming, polite, intelligent.

Who told you that?

Deviousness is true among all businessmen who go for profit... and it's not uniquely Swiss.
Enviousness is true among all those who have less and who hanker for those of others... and it's not uniquely Swiss.
Dissocial does not exist as a term... asocial does.

Oh, please... don't malign people on account of their nationality, religious belief, race, gender and all.
