i went and got a card rebuild kit for the 1 barrel rochester carb on my 64 corvair. the pic an parts for the rebuild vary just a little as far as internal parts. now the kit is for more than one model of this carb. so is the pic a "general" like a car manual... and alter the replacement to match what was found in the begining... or do i have a problem?

The illustration in the kit is a "typical" assembly. You must use your better judgment regarding which parts you replace. Some of them it will be very clear and others a bit vague. Some, though they may not look "right" will function very well.
The most important thing you want to accomplish is to be sure all passages are clear and have no deposits.
That particular carburetor is very simple and almost "mistake proof".
Good Luck

those old 1 barrel's are pretty staight forward, just replace the float and needle set, and any other parts that can be replaced and the new gaskets.

hope this helps
