Get Tom Petty's HIGHWAY COMPANION ....what a gem!
Any Jonny lang except the newest one...the boy can sing the blues, His latest is a confusion of gospel tunes he felt compelled to make. K. T. Tunstall has an interesting sound.
DIAMOND & RUST by Joan Baez, and listen carefully to the lyrics of that song. Any Led Zeppelin. Sheryl Crow for sure.
Alright, add Eric Clapton to the mix. Good old Beatles tunes.
Pick up a Motown compilation for fun. Keb 'Mo , more blues.

Currently I'm in love with everything on the new Grey's Anatomy soundtrack. The radio hits you might be hearing right now are "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol and "How to Save a Life" by The Fray.
