white vinegar will kill weeds. Be careful not to get it on anything you want to grow.

Gather these materials: small shovel, weed puller, knee pads or something to sit on, a radio or ipod, a refreshing drink and get to work pulling the weeds by hand. make sure you get all of the root.
For dandelions, take a walk around your yard daily and pull the heads off of any that you see before they have time to seed. I even seek on to the neighbors lawn and do this, they spread pretty quickly.

You could just put some music on and pull them. Safer than spraying near your plants.
