There are a bunch of new great restaurants opening in Culver City. (I started to link, but it was too much.)
Try these:
Wilson's http://www.wilsonfoodandwine.com/
Tender Greens
Ford's Filling Station
S & W Country Diner (for breakfast)
Bluebird Cafe (might be called Bluebird Bakery)(breakfast and lunch, pastries, just opened for dinner I believe)
Cafe Laurent
La Dijonaisse (French cafe)
Beacon (great Asian themed food -- not cheap, but not as much as you'd guess)
Honey's Kettle (fried chicken)
and great place to pick up lunch is the cafe at Surfas -- a wonderful store for all things food and cooking related.
just outside of Culver City on Venice Blvd is Versailles (LA institution for its Cuban-style garlic chicken); Cafe Brasil, and Bamboo -- an underrated Caribbean-influence, moderate priced place.
Looking at recommednations above, I forgot Fassica, an Ethiopian place. Haven't been there in awhile, but think it is still there.

Tito's Tacos and Fassica are the real jewels of Culver City. Also Villa Italian on Sepulveda Blvd. just north of Washington for great pizza and pasta dishes, family style.

that is not an extremely sturdy inn from a seems point of view however the section is truthfully secure. there is crime everywhere, yet many of the craziness in la happens properly east of Culver city. -- oh i purely observed somebody point out titos tacos...truthfully bypass there for some foodstuff. there's a line exterior for a reason!!

If you like mexican food, I would suggest Tito's Tacos. It's inexpensive and ridiculously good. I've been going there since I was a child. I've never been there when it wasn't crowded so don't be deterred by the long lines! They actually move pretty quick. Also, the parking pretty much sucks but it's well worth the wait.

Best bet is the Marina and Play Del Rey. It is close and lots of variety.
